How to Style Denim: 5 Looks from Our Masterclass
You may or may not know that before becoming &FINALLY, we both cut our teeth as stylists (well, still do, actually). So, when Polo Ralph Lauren asked us to give a denim styling masterclass, we gleefully obliged (partly because half the fun in dressing up your denim involves accessories and - just to state the obvious - we are accessories people.) So, we invited a few friends and followers to join us at the Polo Ralph Lauren store on Regent Street and talked through a few ways to update your indigo for summer. Here’s a run down of our five favourite outfits:
Look 1: The Denim Dress
We love a floaty denim dress on holiday, but what happens when it comes to the city? Throw on a pair of boyfriend fit jeans and give it an unexpected twist with a double belted waist (skinny belts work best, but why not experiment?)
Look 2: The Skinny Black Jean
If this style gives you flashbacks to teenage years in ill-fitting pairs, let us banish those for you. The lace up detail is a laid back update, but teamed with an army shirt and tonal jacket it becomes a chic safari look. A raffia clutch is just the dose of summer it needs.
Look 3: Suited not Booted
If you’ve ever wondered how to smarten up your jeans, let us give you the answer: a denim tuxedo. An indigo blazer and matching culottes give the impression of a suit with all the casual joy of denim. And there’s that dose of summer again in the form of a chic cinched silhouette.
Look 4: Do a Denim Shirt
Patchwork pockets and pale washes? That’s a denim shirt we can get on board with. Smartened up with a military jacket and our favourite buckle bag, it’s the perfect summer lunch get up.
Look 5: White Jeans
Hear us out: we know they were the last season of Love Island’s greatest asset (the skinny version on hunky men, no less) but they can also be a cool alternative to tailoring. Case in point: teamed with a double breasted blazer and belt in military colours, they’re the chicest bottoms out there.
