Turn to Turbans

Dear occasion guest, with winter weddings and Christmas parties in full swing, does the mention of hats and headgear incite fear in your mind? While we have harped on about headbands being the ‘toe-dipper’ of the trend, we do have another in store (don't say we don't bring the goods.) Introducing our dream silk turbans by couture milliner Iona Montgomery. But there's an even more compelling reason we're supporting these turbans as the new occasionwear accessory...

To mark the end of Breast Cancer Awareness month, the designer has produced a collection of handcrafted turbans with proceeds going to breast cancer charity Coppafeel, an organisation that aims to educate young people about the disease.

The designer, Iona Montgomery, was diagnosed with breast cancer at 26 years old. Chemotherapy made her understandably incredibly self conscious of her thinning hair and, having been advised by doctors to not to wear fabrics that may cause friction and more hair loss, she decided to make herself a silk turban to wear to a friend's wedding. Since then the turban has become a signature style of her couture hat designs.

Her friends loved her designs - a great option for weddings without going all out with a attention-grabbing hat, we say - and she has now launched a capsule of turbans alongside felt hats with proceeds going to a cause that is truly close to her heart. Each style is now custom made in the colour of your choice in her London studio.

A style tip to make these work through occasion season? We say team them with XXL earrings for head-turning glamour. (Side but important note: they are also silk lined making them a fabulous chic option for those undergoing the adversities of chemotherapy.)
