The Padded Alice Band: the 80s Sloane's staple is back

The much-disparaged padded headband (along with it’s besties: the twin set and pearls) is the archetypal uniform of the Sloane ranger. But as with many trends banished to fashion no-mans land, the padded headband is back with stylish vengeance. And quite franky it goes perfectly with our love of polka dots, oversized earrings and exaggerated sleeves.

Batsheva, the brand that has breathed new life to the once fussy, frumpy 80s style dress, (donned by all Laura Ashley loving Sloanes) has created a line of floral padded headbands that, like their dresses, feel so modern and chic. What’s more brands like Alessandra Rich have made us want to reach for the padded headbands, and promptly team them with diamante earrings and polka dots. As only Mrs Prada can do, her SS19 show revealed headbands so oversized they almost felt like headsets whilst still remaining the epitome of feminine and elegant. Suddenly a hugely oversized pink satin headband was all we could wish for.

However, a look back at the inimitable style of Princess Diana in the 80s has lead us to just how we want to be wearing that the Alice band. Paired with chic minimal separates it adds interest whilst still feeling paired back. The simplicity of its colour block, minimal shape means its one of the easiest and least fussy accessories to add to your look. Thus becoming the perfect alternative to a hat or, god forbids a fascinator, for a wedding and the simple ticket to dressing up a classic LBD.

Mostly we are thrilled that Fergie's favourite 80s accessory is now OUR favourite accessory and we also quite like feeling a little like Anne Boleyn when we race out of the door.
