How to

A few Autumn styling tips we learnt at Fashion Week

A month spent going to fashion shows, reviewing the upcoming season's collections, can leave you longing for next Spring to come around as soon as possible. However with street style every where you look, it can also be an incredibly inspiring time for picking up styling tips and ideas for how you want to dress right now. This ever-difficult trans-seasonal period can make dressing hard. You switch to your winter wardrobe and nearly pass out from the heat every time you get on the tube. Equally you want to make your summer pieces work for now until they truly must be stored away. Here's a few tips we picked up from street style stalking to inspire you...

Tuck those boots in

A simple styling hack that we kept spotting over fashion month. This is something that you can try with pieces you already own rather than needing to invest in the new. An oversized jumpsuit is a useful piece for transitional dressing anyway (layer a t shirt underneath and you don't really need a jacket) and is also a quick an easy way to try this look. Simply loosely tuck your jumpsuit, like this Tibi one, into your favourite boots whether slouch, knee-high or cowboy.

Brown is best

If you always feel that a black handbag makes the most useful and practical investment, think again! Whilst black can look chic it's cold tone means that its a much less flattering and easy to wear colour than brown. A tan bag will look chic layered with tan and burnt oranges and will go with everything just as much as your classic black style. We love this simple cross body by Wandler, an understated style you will love forever.

The Season to Invest in the Western Boot

Yes we know we have been going on about the joys of the cowboy boot since what feels like the beginning of time but we stand by the fact that they are a) easy to where and b) an investment rather than a passing trend or fad. They were every where on the feet of fashion month attendees and this season is really the one to invest as there are some amazing offerings on both the high street, like this Massimo Dutti pair that are a subtle way into the trend and will look great with classic blue jeans. Or how about this coveted pair by Ganni? Or a real investment pair like these beautiful ( but practical) ones by Fendi.

Don't the scrap the strappy sandal yet...

If there was one shoe we saw more at fashion month than any other it has to be The Row's simple strappy sandal. The team at By Far said their Tanya and Carrie (named after Ms Bradshaw herself!) sandal had been picked up by buyers more than anything else so this style is really something to buy now, wear while the temperatures still allow it, and then pack up ready for next spring when this will still be the shoe you long for. A great way to do trans-seasonal dressing without feeling too hot in all your layers whilst its still 20 degrees team a silk skirt with bare legs, an oversized sweater and, you guessed it, a barely there sandal.
