What to keep wearing this season (and what to invest in too!)

One thing's for sure: you don't need to rethink your entire wardrobe to be ready for this season. Instead, think of it as reinvention and the need for a little spring - or in this case Autumn - cleaning. Take it on instinct but don't be too hasty to throw out: re-using and re-inventing are good for both your pocket and the planet. So instead of a long shopping list of new things you need to buy, we give the things you should dust off, and those - if you haven’t already got - you might want to consider treating yourself to as we head back to school.

WHITE BOOTS

The good thing is that in a world of ‘slow ‘fashion the white boots you bought last season (or even the season before) aren’t going anywhere. So wipe them down! Or failing that take a look at these guys…

Boots, £695, Marques'Almeida

Boots, £79.99, Mango

Boots, £460, Isabel Marant

ANIMAL PRINT

If you haven’t noticed forever-chic animal print, and in particularly leopard print, is having a bigger moment than perhaps normal. Zara and Mango are packed with everything from snake-skin printed two pieces to leopard headbands. If animal print is not something you’ve considered trying (and we suggest straight in and going head to toe) dip a proverbial toe into the trend via some subtle leopard print accessories like these:

Mules, £345, Loeffler Randall

Bag, £49.99, Zara

Boots, £825, Tabitha Simmons

DAD TRAINERS

Hoorah! Another trend that fails to budge. After the sell out success of Balenciaga’s Triple S and Louis Vuitton’s Archlight last season For Autumn/ Winter Gucci showed platform jewel encrusted metallic trainers that are not for the faint hearted , whilst Christopher Kane continued his reinvention of the ugly shoe creating diamante embellished orthopedic style trainers. A gentler way into the trends is surely these oversized sneaks, great for balancing a feminine floaty dress:

Shoes, £1,080, Gucci

Shoes, £39.99, Zara

Shoes, £260, Maje

Shoes, £615, Balenciaga

KNEE HIGH BOOTS

If you haven’t got a classic heeled knee high boot in your wardrobe why not invest this Autumn Winter when the shops will be filled with great versions. A style that never dates if you buy a well made pair they really will be a friend for life. Slip under a mid or full length dress for an ever-chic ode to the 70s

Boots, £199, &Other Stories

Boots, £149.99, Mango

Boots, £570, Marskinryyppy

FUZZY FLUFFY AND WARM INSIDE

A great faux fur or shearling accessory will always say winter, so unpack your scarves and trimmed jackets and take it to the next level by investing in a furry hat or bag to up the cosy ante.

Hat, £236, Filù Hats

Bag, £375, Shrimps

Bag, £495, Mehry Mu

CHUNKY PENDANT

While delicate jewellery reigned in the past the strong and long-standing case for the oversized earring has now been joined by the chunky pendant. Initially seen at Natacha Ramsay-Levi’s debut Chloe show last season this season it was spotted at Giambattista Valli, Altazurra, Elie Saab too. Save money and make your own, inspired by the found objects threaded onto long pendants at Coach and Stella McCartney.

If not here’s some to invest in:

Necklace, £225, Sylvia Toledano

Necklace, £510, Chloé

Necklace, £178, Brinker & Eliza

And a special mention to the COWBOY BOOT

We such big fans we devoted a whole ode to this season’s cowboy boots. But if you have a great pair, never throw them away!
